West Kyushu Shinkansen's First Year Spurs ¥173.6 Billion Economic Boost

The Kyushu Economic Research Center has announced that the West Kyushu Shinkansen (Takeo Onsen - Nagasaki), celebrating its first year of operation, has generated an economic spillover effect totaling 173.6 billion yen for both Saga and Nagasaki prefectures. This economic boost has been attributed largely to the redevelopment around Nagasaki Station and the construction of condominiums along the train line. JR Kyushu reported an approximate passenger count of 2.42 million, marking a 2% increase over the conventional limited express trains (Isahaya - Nagasaki) for the year leading up to September 2018 and the year prior to the pandemic.
