Fukuoka Boosts SME Support and Growth IndustriesNew

The Fukuoka Prefectural Government's Commerce and Industry Department is promoting initiatives to support small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs), attract corporate investment, foster startups, and develop growth industries. Semiconductors are one of the prefecture's priority sectors. While Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company (TSMC)'s expansion into neighboring Kumamoto Prefecture has attracted considerable attention, approximately 40% of the roughly 1,000 semiconductor-related companies located across Kyushu are based in Fukuoka Prefecture. The prefecture is home to globally recognized companies such as Mitsubishi Electric and ROHM. Recent investments include Amkor Technology's first research and development facility in Japan and a new development base established by Tokyo Electron. Fukuoka Prefecture will continue working with other Kyushu prefectures and the regional business community to jointly exhibit at international trade fairs in Taiwan and organize business matching events with overseas companies. Meanwhile, Global Connect Fukuoka, a startup support center established last year within CIC Fukuoka, provides comprehensive assistance including fundraising and business matching services. During the current fiscal year, the prefecture will select promising deep-tech startups as NEXT Unicorn candidates and provide intensive support for their overseas expansion.
