Major Offshore Wind Farm To Launch in FY2025New
Hibiki Wind Energy (Kitakyushu City) announced plans to start operations of the "Kitakyushu Hibikinada Offshore Wind Farm," currently under construction in the Hibikinada area of Kitakyushu, within fiscal 2025. The project will install 25 wind turbines with a total maximum output of 220,000 kW. Annual power generation is estimated at around 500 million kWh, making it one of the largest offshore wind farms in Japan upon completion. This capacity is equivalent to powering approximately 170,000 households, or about 40% of Kitakyushu's total. Kitakyushu Port is the only designated "base port" for offshore wind power in western Japan, and the city aims to leverage its manufacturing base to serve as a hub for assembly, operation, and maintenance of wind turbines.
