Hakata Port Tops Japan in Cruise Ship CallsNew

In 2024, foreign cruise ships made 1,923 calls at Japanese ports—a 1.5-fold increase from the previous year, according to the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism. Hakata Port led with 193 calls, followed by Naha (169) and Nagasaki (157). Inbound cruise passengers totaled 1.438 million, quadrupling from the previous year and reaching 57% of the 2017 peak. China accounted for the largest share at 951,000, followed by Taiwan with 240,000. The government is promoting sustainable development in the cruise sector.
