Fukuoka Backs Semiconductor Back-End DevelopmentNew

The Fukuoka Prefectural Government has earmarked ¥67.24 million to support the development and localization of semiconductor production, positioning the sector as a key growth industry. With front-end circuit formation nearing its physical limits, the importance of advanced back-end processes—such as packaging and assembly—is rising. The prefecture will focus on accelerating R&D in this area. As part of the initiative, two existing organizations—the "3D Semiconductor Research Center" and the "Social Systems Demonstration Center"—will be merged into a new entity tentatively named the "Fukuoka Ultra-Integration Semiconductor Solution Center." The center will offer integrated support from design and prototyping to performance evaluation. Leading Japanese researchers will be appointed as director and technical advisors, and state-of-the-art equipment will be installed.
