Green Asia Special Economic Zone Continues Steady GrowthNew
Capital investment under the Green Asia International Strategic Comprehensive Special Zone—an initiative led by Fukuoka Prefecture, Kitakyushu City, and Fukuoka City—continues to perform strongly more than a decade after the program’s launch. The zone supports manufacturers developing eco-friendly products through a combination of national tax and financial incentives, as well as local benefits such as enhanced site subsidies and exemptions from real estate acquisition taxes. As of December 2024, 81 companies had received official designation under the program, resulting in a total of ¥485 billion in capital investment and the creation of approximately 3,010 new jobs—delivering clear economic benefits to the region.
A new mixed-use facility is set to open on the domestic terminal side of Fukuoka Airport in summer 2027, offering a travel-inspired experience even for non-flyers. The 11-story building will span approximately 40,000 square meters. Floors 1 to 4 will feature shops and eateries highlighting food and culture from Fukuoka, Kyushu, and Asia, while floors 5 to 11 will house a runway-facing airport hotel operated by the Nishitetsu Group. The complex will also include a large public bath with sauna, a fitness center, and other amenities tailored to a wide range of traveler and local needs.
