A decision has been reached to hold the Fukuoka International Marathon 2022, a new event that will succeed the Fukuoka International Open Marathon Championship, which ended its 75-year run with its last race in December 2021. After searching for ways to preserve the value and history of the event, a new management structure was established with Fukuoka Prefecture and other partners assuming the role of organizers. The new marathon will be held on December 4. The marathon will retain the Elite label that World Athletics, the international federation that governs athletic events like track and field and running, has given to its predecessor. The event will once again bring top-class runners from all over Japan and around the world to Fukuoka for a high-speed race.
