Hakata Gion Yamakasa Held for the First Time in Three Years

On July 15, the Hakata Gion Yamakasa festival, which was held for the first time in three years after a two-year hiatus due to the COVID-19 pandemic, concluded with the Oiyama float race. For the Oiyama, men from seven different neighborhood teams called nagare carried racing floats, or kakiyama, and competed for the fastest time along the 5-kilometer course. This year, Chiyo Nagare took first place.
